Getting started
- Open TendiPlay and choose a parent PIN of 6 to 12 digits. You can turn on Face ID or Touch ID, or fingerprint or face unlock on Android, as well.
- Tap Add a child, choose a nickname, look over the suggested goals and tick These goals suit my child.
- Pick a world on the home screen and play together. Help, Break and Finished are always on screen.
Who is TendiPlay for?
Children aged about 3 to 16, playing with a parent or carer nearby. We designed it with children who need extra learning support in mind, such as autistic children and children with speech, language or developmental delays, and any child who enjoys calm, simple games can play. Questions follow the age you enter: a three-year-old listens and finds a picture, while a ten-year-old reads a short story or works out a sum.
Is TendiPlay therapy?
No. It's playful practice to enjoy together. It doesn't diagnose, treat or assess, and it works alongside, not instead of, your child's therapists, teachers and communication system.
Can my child use it with AAC, Switch Control or Switch Access?
Yes. Under Grown-ups, choose your child, then Edit. There you can set how your child makes a choice (tap, select-then-place, Switch Control or Android Switch Access, or a grown-up confirming a choice made with AAC or a gesture), change the picture size, and adjust scenery, motion, sound, read-aloud instructions and gentle vibration.
Does it work offline?
Yes. All the games, progress and reports work without an internet connection. You only need to be online to buy or restore a subscription, sign in, back up, or get play ideas and scene colours.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later, and Android phones and tablets with Android 8.0 or later from Google Play. Smart variety uses Apple Intelligence and is only on iPhone and iPad that support it. Everything else works on every supported device.
Switch Control, AAC and accessible play
Every TendiPlay world, free or Family, can be played with Switch Control on iPhone and iPad, or Switch Access on Android. Each child has their own choice method, so a sibling who taps and a child who uses a switch can share one device.
- Turn on Switch Control in the iPhone or iPad Settings app under Accessibility, or Switch Access in Android Settings under Accessibility, as you would for any app.
- In TendiPlay, open Grown-ups, choose your child, then Edit.
- Under How your child plays, set Input to Switch Control (shown as Switch Access on Android). For a child who answers with an AAC device, signs or points, choose Parent-confirmed AAC or gesture so a grown-up confirms the choice on screen.
- On the same screen, set the picture size and, under Look, turn off Smooth animations if movement is distracting. With switches, VoiceOver or TalkBack the next question always waits for a tap.
TendiPlay is not an AAC app and does not replace your child's communication system. If a setting does not work with your child's setup, email [email protected] and tell us the device and switch you use.
TendiPlay Family
What's free, and what does Family add?
Five starter games are free to play as often as you like, along with progress, reports, backup and every accessibility setting. TendiPlay Family adds the other eight worlds (five study worlds for reading, spelling, number, directions and memory, and three toy worlds), every level in every world, thousands of extra pictures, AI-written practice questions, screen-free play ideas themed on what your child loves, a weekly practice plan, home play guides, a shareable weekly summary and scene colours.
Is there a free trial?
Eligible new subscribers can try the yearly plan free. The app shows the trial length and the price that follows before you confirm. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you won't be charged.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Grown-ups, then Family plan, then tap Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you used to subscribe, or on Android, to Google Play with the Google Account you used.
How do I cancel or change plans?
Open Grown-ups, then Family plan, then Manage subscription. You can also go to Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions, or on Android open Google Play, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription.
What happens if my subscription ends?
Your child keeps the free starter games in every world, and all of their progress, reports and data controls stay in place. Nothing is deleted.
Does Family Sharing work?
On iPhone and iPad, yes: TendiPlay Family can be shared with up to five other family members through Apple Family Sharing. Google Play subscriptions aren't shared through Google Play Family Library. Each device keeps its own children's profiles. To move profiles to a new device, use Backup.
How do I get a refund?
Apple and Google handle all payments, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or from Google Play under Request a refund. We can't issue refunds ourselves, but we're glad to help if something isn't working.
Backup and new devices
How do I back up my child's progress?
Open Grown-ups, then Account, and sign in with Apple (or with Google on Android). Then open Backup and turn on Back up automatically. Your records are encrypted on your device before they're uploaded, so we can't read them. Tap Show recovery code and keep the code somewhere safe.
How do I restore after reinstalling, or on a new device?
Set a parent PIN, then open Grown-ups, then Account, and sign in with the same account. The app offers to restore your backup. If the backup key isn't on that device (for example a new Android device, or an iPhone without your iCloud Keychain), you'll be asked for your recovery code. Backups made on iPhone or iPad can't be restored on Android, or the other way round.
I've lost my recovery code.
If you can still open TendiPlay on a device that has your backup key, open Grown-ups, then Backup, then Show recovery code. If neither your backup key nor the code is available, we can't unlock the backup. We never hold your key, which is what keeps your child's records private. You can delete that backup and start a new one.
Why doesn't a new device show my children automatically?
Children's records stay on the device where they were made. Each device is separate unless you restore a backup onto it.
For grown-ups
I forgot the parent PIN.
On the PIN screen, tap Forgot PIN? and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, your fingerprint or face, or your device screen lock. You can then choose a new PIN. Your children's records aren't affected.
How do I set play time limits?
Open Grown-ups, choose your child, tap Edit and set a Check-in reminder and a Time limit. When time is up, a grown-up can allow more with the PIN, Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint.
How do I change goals and levels?
Open Grown-ups, choose your child, then Goals and levels. You can set a starting level and a highest level for each game, and choose whether your child moves up levels automatically.
How do I share progress with a teacher or therapist?
Open Grown-ups, choose your child, then Progress. Under Export, choose PDF report or Spreadsheet (CSV). With Family, you can also tap Share summary in Practice plan for a short weekly summary. Shared files can include your child's nickname and your notes, so send them only to people you trust.
Can I note things my child did away from the screen?
Yes. Open Grown-ups, choose your child, then Note something from home. Home notes are kept separately from game results, so it's always clear which is which.
How are play ideas made?
Play ideas and scene colours (TendiPlay Family, with a signed-in account) are written by an AI model from the game and the interest you choose, such as trains or music. Nothing about your child is sent. We check each idea for unsuitable wording, but please use your own judgement: choose safe materials, avoid small objects, and adapt it to your child.
Does TendiPlay use AI in the games?
With TendiPlay Family, the five study worlds mix in fresh short stories, word problems, riddles and themed sequences written by an AI model, alongside thousands of built-in questions. Only the game, an age group (such as 6 to 8) and a level are sent; never your child's name, age, answers or records. The AI can only use pictures from the app's own collection, the app works out every answer itself, and every question is checked for unsuitable wording on our server and again on the device before your child sees it. You can turn AI questions off for each child under Grown-ups, in the child's settings. Without Family, or offline, the built-in questions are used.
Why does the next question start by itself?
To save little fingers some taps: answers built from letters or pictures check themselves, and after the result the next question follows on its own. A missed question comes back once with Help showing. A Wait button is always on screen, and you can turn this off for each child under Grown-ups. With switches, VoiceOver or TalkBack, the app always waits for a tap.
Privacy and your data
What information leaves my device?
Nothing about your child, unless you turn on backup, which is encrypted so we can't read it. If you sign in, we process your Apple or Google sign-in details. Play ideas send only the game and the interest you pick, with an anonymous device ID for the daily limit. There are no ads and no tracking. Our privacy policy has the details.
How do I delete my data or my account?
- One child: Grown-ups, choose the child, Edit, then delete.
- Older records: Grown-ups, Settings and privacy, choose a period, then delete older records.
- Everything on this device: Grown-ups, Settings and privacy, then Delete all children and progress.
- Your backup: Grown-ups, Backup, then Delete backup.
- Your account: Grown-ups, Account, then delete. This also deletes your backup and all children on this device.
- Without the app: email [email protected] with the subject Delete my TendiPlay account, from the email address you signed in with. We delete your account and its encrypted backup within 30 days and confirm by email. Children's records on your device are deleted by deleting the app.
Troubleshooting
The plans don't load, or my purchase isn't showing.
Check that you're online and signed in to the App Store or Google Play, then tap Restore purchases under Grown-ups, then Family plan. If you use Ask to Buy or Google Play parental approval, the purchase appears once it's approved. On Android, plans only load when TendiPlay was installed from Google Play. If it still doesn't show, quit and reopen TendiPlay.
"No idea is available right now."
Play ideas need an internet connection and a signed-in account. There's also a daily limit per account. Try again a little later. The built-in home play guides in Practice plan are always available.
My backup won't finish.
Make sure you're online and still signed in under Grown-ups, then Account. Then open Backup and tap Back up now. Backups have a daily limit, so if you've backed up many times today, try again tomorrow.
My child can't start a game.
Play time may be up for today. A grown-up can tap Grown-up: more time, or change the time limit under Grown-ups, choose your child, then Edit. If a level needs Family and your subscription has ended, the game starts from the free levels instead.
